The answer, and I don't mean to be patronising, is that it depends on how bad it is, and on your skin type. I got burned last Friday, it stung for two or three days, but looks really good now. Slap on some after sun lotion to take the edge off it.
I don't think you will still look burned in a week but you may be peeling if it is bad. Use some aftersun lotion every day but that won't necessary stop it...
oh and don't go out in the sun in the next week, recently burned or peeling skin is hypersensitive to the sun and it will be twice as bad if you get burned again soon.
thank you all. Ok, so in a week I won't look so bad. Seven days then, that's not so long. I really think I will call in sick tomorrow as I feel so self conscious, I have tried laughing it off but I am ready to die....,
The best thing for it i find is putting aloe vera in the fridge and slapping plenty on and letting it soak in, feels quite sticky to start with but once it has soaked in your skin is silky smooth. Really bad sunburn can take a few days to completly go and you will peel no doubt too, so invest in some body scrub, boots do a good one with sugar melon and mint once your sunburn has gone i would recommend using this and still putting plenty of moisturiser on afterwards too.
I got a (bit!) burnt on Monday. I've been slapping after sun on 3 times a day (don't want to be peeling), It's now almost gone, just one shoulder a little bit pink still. I have kept covered up the rest of the week though!
