Could This Just Be Flu Or...

something else?I have never had breathlessness symptoms like it,going the loo leaves me a groaning mess.I know I am hyperventilating by the way my head and hearing goes funny. Also I have slept most of today, not eaten a thing and not drank anywhere near as much as I do on a normal day.Even just typing thid I am huffing and puffing, with the odd tightening of the chest, feeling like I neede oxygen,
Please, and ideas,do you think just time will help?As I am no way going to hospital.Went this time last year and never came home for another six,so to say I am a bit phobic hits the mark.
Thanks everyone

Last time I was that bad breathing wise I had viral pnumonia and couldn't even get me out of bed (they had to carry me on a chair to an ambulance).
Could be something like that or bronchitis or a bad chest infection.
Call the out of hours doctor and ask their advice.
Are you on your own? If it came to it and you need it then hospital is the place to be, noone likes being there but delaying if that is what you need could make things worse and cause a longer recovery.
I should have got in a lot earlier than I did when my gallbladder got infected and really wish I'd got myself in earlier.

Another thought, is there anything which could have caused a blot clot anywhere such as a limb having been immobilised (in plaster etc...) or conditions which could make you more likely to get them?
It was initially thought I could have a blood clot in my lung when an ambulance was valled for me as I was in plaster ankle to hip at the time.

I am not alone,my Hubby and 2 teenage kids are here.
I am 41 with many underlying health conditions, mainly relating to severe lack of movement in my lower limbs-undiagnosed paralasis, cannot recall the full name sorry.I had just been to the hospital on Thursday, first time out in over 6 weeks, thats when the breathlessness started to get really bad.I did choke on some toast that morning, from then my throat was feeling odd and I was coughing.
I just keep hoping that spending the day in be will help.stupidly I dont want to go to hospital, can I be treated at home for some things?
Much thanks to you all for replying

You need to be properly assessed by a medical professional, especially if you have a complex medical history (and I imagine numerous strong medications). Difficulty breathing is not be to messed about with.
Call the out of hours doctors and see what they say. There may be something they can do to help and get you settled. They won't send you to hospital unless you really need it. If they think you do then that is where you should be but they should be able to make you more comfortable and get fluids in if you need it and are having issues getting fluids in and hopefully help you get some rest.
If you do then they can arrange for an ambulance to take you in who will have things which can help make you more comfortable like oxygen apparatus if you need it. Much more comfortable than getting to and waiting in A&E to be seen, especially on a Saturday night.

have you any other symptoms, like pain/swelling/red areas on your lower limbs; or altered sensation to your normal physical state. also, how many breaths per minute are you currently doing - ask someone else to time you as it will be more accurate. also, you do need to eat and drink something....being dehydrated/low on blood sugars will not do you any favours. have you got any pain in your chest/neck/left arm or jaw? if so, they may be cardiac symptoms. sorry to ask so many questions, but this may help. and call your gp NOW while you are waiting to decide what to do. i still think you need to see someone, even if you are being stubborn (x)!
Just been the loo..what an ordeal.Things are obviously getting worse so I think I will have a chat with Hubby about ringing thr out of hours,
I so dont want a repeat of last year, that is why I am being so stubborn,Hubby too I suppose. I will have a nap-exhausted after going the loo, then a chat with Hubby.
Thanks again everyone,I will let you know whats happening later

Hi all, I've had a horrible time in hospital as the doctor rang an ambulance, I was in A&E for a short while before going to a ward, having another seizure and winding up in intensive care for about a week. The worst is over now and I'm getting better, doctors said it was problems with my liver and there were multiple problems caused as a result, but I've been moved to a ward now and I'm on the road to recovery
Thanks all for the concern :-)
