Multiple Urine Infections
2 Answers
During july/august I was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection and was prescribed trimethropin. My symptoms persisted and I went back to my gp who gave me stronger antibiotics the name of which escapes me and they seemed to do the trick.Over the last few days my symptoms have returned I am going for a wee every half an hour minimum and am waking during the night 3-5 times to wee.My question is,is there a reason why I may get repeat uti's like and underlying condition or a genetic link(my mum is prone to uti's cystitis etc)? There is no chance I am pregnant or have an STI

Yes........the fact that you are female......an anatomical difference from males make you more prone to UTI's.
Also if you are still sexually active........you get more UTI's.
I know of no hereditary or genetic link which would make you more prone to UTI's.

While predisposition to UTI's is not genetic or hereditary, you and your Mum might have narrowed urinary tubes and/or small kidneys, both of which can be hereditary. I have a mate who has small kidneys and narrow tubes and her daughter has the same, as did her mother. Mum suffered all her life with UTI's, her daughter (my friend) saw specialists as a teenager and she made sure that her daughter got checked out as a chid as she was aware that the condition can be passed from generation to generation.
