OH has had a bad knee for about four weeks now, he has been wearing a knee brace type thing. The other day I read about cabbage being a good help in cases like this. It reminded me I used it many, many years ago. It was recommended when I was suffering with Mastitis. So I wore cabbage leaves in my bra. It really worked. I also used it on my elbow when it was sore and swollen that too worked. So he has been putting cabbage leaves under his knee brace and it is getting better.
Anyone know why this works, what magical properties are in cabbages to enable them to reduce swelling?

Thanks for that Mamya, very informative.
Yes isn't it ?? We always had Comfrey leaves in the airing cupboard for the same reason, sprained ankles soaked in a hot comfrey bath worked wonders.
It's nickname is 'knitbone'
Talking about peculiar cures, my daughter had some really nasty burns on her legs & was taken to the burns unit at London Hospital...
They used honey & spread it all over before dressing them. They have healed beautifully.

OH was very sceptical about using it until I showed him the article then he agreed to give it a go. Never heard the nickname before.

Jemisa, I have heard about honey being a healer before. I also read something a while back that if you burn your hand put it in a bag of flour.
yes dark green cabbage leaves to cover knee and tied on with a bandage overnight does help.
apparently honey was used to cover wounds of ye olde knights after battle.
I wonder if strapping leaves to my ankles over night would help with my arthritis? It does mention in that link that arthritis sufferers may benefit. hmmm....
