Lump On Scalp

Hello,

I have this lump on scalp. It came around 18 months ago, it just appeared and bled and scabbed over and so on for a couple of months then it just went away. About 3 weeks ago in the same spot it started to itch and the lump was back as it is just behind my ear on my scalp I couldn't see it so I had my partner take a photo of it so I could see myself. it looks like a white lump with a dark pink edging around it, quite a large border on one side and not so much on the other side of the lump. The lump itself is about the diameter of a pea (not as big as pea if that makes sense, in that it's not that raised up) and the surrounding border is about the size of a penny. If you know what this is maybe a cyst or something and any treatment please let me know. Please don't say see your doctor (unless you really, really think it's necessary) as any time I do with anything I'm just told to 'keep my eye on it' and after more than a year that seems kind of pointless.

Many thanks :)

Is it painful?

It's probably nothing serious but you really ought to get it checked out, just in case . . .

If I was you I'd get up the docs PDQ. One never knows...

Ok just sorting out tinypic won't be a second then i'll send the picture over. It isn't painful it's just tender, like I can feel it there. Does that make sense? It hasn't bled this time (yet) but I didn't pick it before I would just be able to feel that it was bleeding. I did touch it alot so if ther were a scab that probably would have loosened it.

oh right ok, I'll give that a go. I blame the internet for all this paranoia we have these days over illnesses! I'm probably just using the wrong shampoo lol!!

thanks buenchico that's really useful, I'm going to ring the GP tomorrow and see what he says otherwise I will see someone else there, my boyfriends GP is different to mine and says he's great.
If it's changed shape/size and is irritating you I would advise you do see your GP who in turn may refer you to a dermatologist.
Better safe than sorry.

sorry I couldn't get the picture up it loads when I click on it but maybe that's cause it's on my PC i dont know.
Question Author
do you have to pay to see a dermatologist? I couldn't afford that. I never actually got a look at it the first time round so I can't say for sure if it's changed shape, it seems a bit bigger than last time and like I say it hasn't been bleeding.
If you had even a tiny injury in that area years ago (even something as simple as a mosquito bite) it could have led to later keloid scarring:

No, you don't have to pay to see a dermatologist. Just pop along and see your GP and they'll take it form there.
