Can anyone recommend a seaside (as close to the beach as possible) licensed wedding venue? Ideally, a room with open windows to a patio/decking and a sea view...we've found Fistral Blu in Newquay, which would be ideal, but due to personal reasons, Fistral Beach is out of the question. We want a civil cermony at dusk overlooking the sea followed by a beach party. Needs to be down south I think to gain any sort of guarantee of good weather!

We've wrestled with the whole dilemma of an overseas wedding (we fancied a traditional Sri Lankan one) but by it's nature, it excludes our friends and family as it's too pricey to be there (most have kids as well which complicates matters). So....we've settled on a UK wedding. We want to get married outdoors (but can't apparently) with a hippy, barefoot, informal type of vibe. Sort of mini Glastobury! Any ideas welcome because we are stumped!

Not down south but Portmeirion  N Wales is an ideal setting    Beautiful italian style buildings, familiar places due to the Prisoner series.     The hotel has an open area that looks like a moored ship,   probably a bit on the expensive side and you do have to contend with visitors

The art deco hotel on Burgh Island, South Devon does weddings.  It is also where Agatha Christie wrote (and set) a couple of her books.  De be aware though that this part of Devon can be fairly wet, warm though!  And the sunsets here can be spectacular.  Why don't you check out their web site http://www.burghisland.com/

Me again, if you want dry weather (no guarantee anywhere in this country mind) you'll find that central south england, round the Southampton and Portsmouth areas is drier than Devon and Cornwall.

Have you tried Lands End? I'm pretty sure they are licensed, and the views are wonderful. Facilities are good too.

I would have to agree with spudqueen, Burgh Island and the surrounding area must be one of the nicest "seaside" areas in the country.

Le Strange Arms, Hunstanton, Norfolk. It has beautiful views and first class service. A wedding there is always beautiful (and I'm anti-marriage)!

Don't know if you've considered it but last year we got married on a boat (large party type, not rowing) on the River Tyne. We had a very low key civil ceremony to cover the legalities in the morning, we didn't exchange rings etc. That evening all of our friend joined us and we had a Humanist Ceremony on the boat. It was unbelievable. Humanism is, in case you didn't know, simply a non religious celebration (so if you want a big church do it would be no good.) They have a web site www.humanism.org.uk/site/cms/ The benefit then is obvious you could choose to get married anywhere. We travelled on the River prior to the ceremony then they opened the new Millenium Bridge and our ceremony took place between that bridge and the Tyne Bridge in front of the Sage Music Centre. I know you require gauranteed sun so i'm not suggesting the North East but thought this was a diferent option on venue you may wish to consider, i.e. anywhere.

Thanks for your replies! We want a humanist wedding, preferably at sunset outdoors so it looks like we are going to have to have the legal ceremony the day before then the real ceremony on the day. This does free up the venues for us...also found a company that rents out morrocon themed tents...ideal! Just need to find a beautiful outdoor venue we can erect the tent with views of the sea or the countryside now...!
