I am 'tongue-tied' the skin underneath my tongue comes right to the front meaning I can't stick it out properly, although I can move it and twist it and roll it inside my mouth!  I am 22 and have never had any problems with it I don't have any speech problems.  I am not even thinking about getting it cut I just wondered if anyone else out there is tongue tied and do you have any problems because of it?  I have never met anyone else with a tied tongue and would like to hear how fellow tongue-tied people feel about their little freaky bit!

Me too - but can't say I've ever worried about it.  Rather have that as a peculiarity than one or two other things I can think of!  My children think it's hilarious when I try and stick my tongue out at them.
My brother is the same, pagey3, and he's 50 and never had any problems apart from mrs.pudding's inability to stick his tongue right out.

in days of old, midwives used to grow the fingernail on their little finger long, and if they delivered a 'tongue-tied' baby they'd slice through the membrane under it with the nail. But I doubt there was any real need for it. If it's causing you no bother pagey3, don't worry about it. Tongues come with different infrastructure - I've never been able to poke mine out as far as that famous picture of Albert Einstein.

(Of course there's that old line about the guy in the pub, surrounded by beautiful women: 'Don't know how he does it,' says the barman, 'he just stands there licking his eyebrows.')

I always thought tongue tied meant that you couldn't say something properly.. like a tongue twister! I can touch the tip of my nose with my tongue and stick it up my nostril... not nice.
The daughter of friend of mine was born like this and she had a simple operation to cut the bit that was causing probs.

Ha ha its good to know I am not the only one!  I never really worried about it (apart from when I was about 13 and building up to my first kiss!)  Jus like mrs pudding, everyone loves it when I try to stick my tongue out - a great source of amusement for all my friends.  Apparently it looks like a whale's tale when I lift it up to show them!!

My 2 identical twin nephews were tongue-tied and they had it cut when they were babies.
