Your mouth may be inflamed - get some Difflam mouth rinse, this helps reduce that and I am never without it in the house.

It won't sting will it? :(
Sorry got called away - no it doesn't, has a slight numbing effect at first and no strong aftertaste.
Oral thrush is a possibility. Does it burn when you eat or drink?
Your chemist can sort you out for that. It does sting though, momentarily.
If it is thrush, better the sting in your mouth now, trust me.
I would have soup for the next few meals, if I were you.
