does anyone know or take this medication for high cholesterol
simvastatin, as a friend was prescribed it, not sure of the dose, but he said it had an adverse effect..
The dose depends upon the type of statin and is decoded upon by the prescribing doctor.
Yes, Simvastatin does have minor side effects, but in my opinion are often exaggerated.
As sandy says......there are other statins that can be taken if one particular type gives side effects
he is getting on in years, by that i mean over 80 and has to go back to doctor for tests for other matters, i did tell him to check with the doc over this med..
I've tried a wide variety of statins and have had really bad adverse side effects with all of them - so much so that I have been taken off them.
I now take aspirin every day and a bowl of porridge each morning and my cholesterol level is fine
he has a good diet, that is what i don't understand, thought it might be age related, also reports gets very breathless when walking, also under investigation.
I stopped taking symvastatin due to cramps in my calves in the night, it was frighteningly painful, I was in agony, the pain subsided but my legs ache for days after.
I've been on Simvastatin for a few years and have no side effects, but a friend of my OH's started taking them recently and had a very bad reaction to it - terrible muscle pain which lasted quite a time, so I would see your GP and find out about other statins.
I have been on the highest dose of simvastatin as you can take (80 mgs) for absolute ages, lost count of the number of years and have no side effects whatsoever. It is certainly not age related if you go by my experience so best to go back and get it altered.
