Blood Blister.

I have a blood blister on the underside of my finger. Is it best to pop it or will it disperse on its own?

I don't think it makes a lot of odds. Minor injury. Do as you feel.

A blister is formed to protect the damaged skin underneath, they should always be left alone unless they become infected.

I always prick them with a sterilized needle (dipped in Dettol), squeeze out the blood, dab of Dettol, and cover with a small elastoplast. I've treated hundreds like this without a problem.

If it's not causing you any problems, leave it alone. If it's large or painful see Khandro's entry. It's really better to leave it if you can. As soon as you break the skin you have a risk of infection.

I let them develop, prick them with a sterile needle, squeeze the contents out and cover with a dressing.

"Leave blood blisters to heal naturally. If a blood blister bursts, keep the area clean and dry. Protect it with a sterile dressing to prevent infection.

Blood blisters are often painful. Applying an ice pack to the affected area immediately after the injury can help to relieve pain. Apply the ice pack for between 10 and 30 minutes. To make sure that the ice doesn't touch your skin directly, place a towel over the affected area before applying the ice"
