Infected Finger?

I burnt my finger last week and over the course of time the blister has been broken and I've been left with an open wound. I have avoided covering it as far as possible to let it heal and dry out but keep disturbing the scab due to the location of the wound.

I have just realised that it is discoloured around the wound and is hot to touch.

Given that the wound is currently dry would an antiseptic cream help what I am assuming is a now infected wound?

Is there anything else I can do?

Bread poultice.

warm some milk till it is as hot as you can bare it - soak bread (heel is best in it) apply directly to infected area wrap up in a bandage - as the bread dries it sucks out the gunge.

my mother used to do this to my infections when i was small - worked every time

Aaarrgghhh, no I can't use my best sourdough!?!? ;-)

Nor do I have any finger johnnies to hold it altogether. If there are no more suggestions I will improvise with some cling film this evening.

Doesn't need to be finger jonnies - just a crepe bandage would do if its on tight.
Use a small bit of the heel you don't need masses.

Give it a go you won't regret it!!

As it happens I am whizzing some bread for crumbs, I'll reserve the heel for later.

Once I have prepared dinner (with one hand) I'll try the poultice.

I have so much work on over the next week, I really can't call in sick with a poorly finger!

No big deal.......Ibuprofen for the pain and pop into the GP.s tomorrow and he will give you antibiotics.

Sqad, I have an unused script for Flucloxacillin, would it be suitable for this kind of infection?

Alba, when I was young we used to describe the thin slice ham as pink lint!

If there is no pus in or around the wound then a poultice is not going to work as there is nothing to draw out. I'm not a medical doctor BTW. I would tend to apply Aloe Vera gel and cover with a crepe bandage. Aloe Vera has natural antibacterial properties is cooling and non toxic.

Is the heel what I would call the crust of the bread (the crust being the end slices of a loaf)?
My son who has Aspergers calls it 'end bread' :)

Yes Daffy, I call it the crust too but my Husband calls it the heel. Like end bread, appropriate in so many ways.
