I'm Dangerously Stressed And Frustrated

I am stressed and I know i am extremely stressed - enough to consider going to the doctor but he will only tell me to remove myself from the stressful situation but i can't / dont want to.

I explode at a seconds notice at inanimate objects - an example might be getting my coat caught on a door handle - I will rip my coat to shreds in temper rather than calmly extract it from the door. The temper a small issue like that creates is scary. 10 seconds later - it's over and back to 'normal'.
I only usually do this when i am on my own never(very rarely) with people around.
This will happen maybe 3-5 times a day when I feel that something happens that doesnt need to happen ( ie coat in a door handle).
I used to be in control and now dont feel I am - I just feel like its getting worse.
Bit of a long question but any suggestions / web sites etc?

//Quoi, try hanging it on a coat hook instead of a door handle. //

lol

The other one is when the belt loop of your jeans gets caught in the door handle - tell me thats not the universe taking the p. Not just once but several times that happens - what annoys is the randomness/unlikelyness of the event.
Yeah Quoi, the old jeans belt loop v door handle, happened to me a few times as well.
Doesn't happen if you have round door handles though.

Cheers tonyav - I'm feeling better about it just getting it off my chest

There is a funny side when I think of some of the things that have happened and lost my rag about.

I have just remembered something I read about that worked for a while and I will try again.
It basically makes you say 'thank you' for allowing the situation to happen and appreciate that you have a coat in the first place.
Yeah, give it another try, well if worked once then why not work twice.
there is an underlying cause, it has nothing to do with anger, nor getting the item caught on a door, it has everything to do with problems you have not addressed, perhaps you get depressed, down, this can precipitate an angry outburst because the other way is to get so low you can't think straight. been there, still there sometimes, best see GP, discuss if you can get counselling, do not take medication without going it into depth, as they can be long term and may not be the answer.
Some medical conditions can cause quick tempers. An OVERactive thyroid is a good example, but there must be many more. But you can't get a diagnosis if you don't go to the doctor.
i go berserk when i catch my short-sleeved shirt on a door handle ... i thought it was a normal reaction
Something must have triggered you to feel like your living on a knife edge all the time? Must be awful for you.

Em10 - thanks - I am aware of a couple of underlying causes - one with my relationship that would be a separate thread thats not going on here but also with the finances in a small business ( getting paid on time - grrrr ).
There is something which sometimes works with people and that's to look in from the outside. When you catch your coat in the handle and start going beserk, look down on the situation as if you were another person and laugh your head off at it. Maybe not to do when other people are present or THEY'll be taking you to the doctor's....
Question Author
Yes Purple_P a knife edge is a good way to describe it - I have become more and more aware of the personality change too - thats what prompted the thread
Quoi, going to the doctor would not be an admission of defeat. It would be an admission that you acknowledge you have a problem and want help in tackling it. Just by posting on here you have taken a step in the right direction which is a very positive thing.
Have you tried cognitive behavioural therapy? I'm trying the Living Life to the Full website which helps.
if you dont lose your temper in front of people, can you not employ the same technique you use in that situation to moments when you are alone?
I was like this, I used to shake with anger when the most ridiculous, stupid things went wrong. That was when I was diagnosed with depression..........
Question Author
Mrs_O - I am acknowleding the problem for the first time here - I want to save the doc for now but in the past I would have said no to the doc - now I accept it may be necessary
Curious81 - thank you - i had a look and I have signed up and I will see what I can gain from it.
Cazzzzz - you would think that was easy - the problem is it is so quick - i get a split second and i am not thinking how to stop when i am on my own - its almost like i want to rage at something.
Craft - i dont want it to be depression - I have reasons why but if you knew the trials I feel I have 'suffered' then it should be.

An update - I was tested today - I was carrying two heavy boxes and had to open the door with my elbow - inevitably the door handle went up my sleeve ( i do seem to have a problem with door handles). Didnt rage - thought about this post and realised how stupid it would have been to pull against the door because the boxes would have gone everywhere. I Calmly stepped back - unhooked my sleeve and didnt think anything of it till now
If it is depression though, whether you like it or not, burying your head in the sand is only going to make it much worse much more quickly.
I know that I'm just another nagbag urging you to go to your GP, but They're nice people these days and your anxiety when it happens is not helping you. The lack of control you feel is not going to help you to overcome this by yourself.
What's next, a hole in your living room wall?
