you need to identify and tackle the cause. I would suggest a chat with your GP as a starting point.
I've been treated for depression for about 10 years now. I'm getting there gradually and have managed to halve my original medication.
There are as many ways to overcome depression as there are people in the world. Your solution will be as un ique as your fingerprint. You need to start exploring all options: therapies, distraction (doing physical stuff like hiking). health (audit your height / weight / blood pressure).
It will take time and there will be setbacks - it is a journey that goes into reverse for short times. So be prepared to take the journey and be kind to yourself.
Hugs.

Thank you for your support!! GP has been visited, therapy and meds have begun!! Just frustrated!! Well done to Craft for reducing your meds!! Not easy I know!!
I couldn't agree more with the others. "Old Hands" develop their own ways of coping over time. Sometimes, you just have to roll with it. I tend to think of it as groping around in the bottom of a deep pit.......... looking for the light switch :o)

I usually manage to talk myself out of it .......... eventually. Don't forget, it's nothing more than just another aspect of "you".

Good lick
Good advice Builder.

Others may disagree Curious...but I have used massage for anxiety..if you find a really good therapist.. and I treated many people with depression and anxiety when I was a massage therapist. Obviously not a cure and only a temporary relief but it did help and I found men responded very well. x
I think that is an excellent suggestion Gness

Thank you!!
Any form of exercise that you feel you can manage is very beneficial for depression. I often didn't feel like taking my dog out, but once I'd walked for a while, I felt much better.
I've also been treated for about ten years and halved my dose. Long dog-walks help, any exercise you enjoy. Not sure if you have panic attacks- I had three or four in the early days and breathing in and out of a paper bag really does work.
Best wishes x

Thank you, yep to panic attacks and an upset tummy! :@(
I had stomach pains, rather than upset, but constant. Had scans and tests, but it actually went after about three months on antidepressants.
Ask your GP for something for the tummy upsets. I take metoclopramide for nausea and it works very well.

How long do fellow sufferers find it takes for anti depressants to kick in/make them feel more human??
I actually felt worse for first two weeks and couldn't leave my bedroom. Was very gradual improvement with good days and bad days. Maybe couple of months realistically. My doctor told me they have to be taken for minimum of six months to work effectively. I also found my limbs felt like lead if I did anything active, but that wore off quite quickly.
Mine took a couple of months before I stopped feeling drugged and started feeling something like normal.
I do find that holidays help. I couldn't organise one but my friend does all of that, as I find it difficult enough just to sort out packing (my daughter does that) and gee myself up for actually going.
I choose holidays (cruises) where I can do as little as I want, or join in things if I'm in the mood.
