Too Much Sleep?

So last night we went to bed as usual, about 11 ish and woke up just before non today feeling awful !! We both ache and have no energy, after 12 hours sleep ( yep sleep ) .
Can one actually have too much sleep ?

If it is a one off then maybe no big deal, your bodies needed rest and got it, but I'd be wary if it continues to occur. I think I'd be checking no flue fumes keeping me drowsy, or something !
My problem is too little sleep. If I go to bed earlier my brain/body simply wakes me up far too early. It doesn't seem to get it that just because I'm older it doesn't mean I need less sleep, even if I have got used to being in a daze from lack of sleep most of the time.
