Why is Christianity not cool?

I know I am probably going to get banned, but I am a Christian and obstain from sex and drink.

Why is not though of as Cool?

I don't think its that its thought of uncool, therefore other people don't want to do it because its uncool, i think its just that people don't want to do it

Ostaining from sex and drink is not an essential part of christianity merely a personal choice! I agree with funkychicken though, it has nothing to do with coolness just depends on the individual and the level of importance religion has in their life!

People dont see it as uncool, but merely something they dont need so much now. Before it used to be somewhere to turn, to believe in, to have faith in making all ok again, and now with science and technology it isnt needed as much.

It was briefly cool again a few years ago with all that Alpha course

I think a lot of younger or immature people may see it as uncool basically because being deeply religious isn�t too common anymore (not where I live anyway!) and they don�t want to be seen as the odd one out. Probably most of their friends aren�t religious and so they think that by having the same beliefs as their friends they�ll be more easily accepted into the group.

Personally I�m not religious, (although I don�t think of it as uncool) but I think that as long as what you believe in doesn�t harm anybody then good for you for standing up for yourself!

You should stand up for your religion anyway i think, it may be cool or it may not it isn't what other people think about god it is what you think about it. If you worship god you should be able to do that without any hassle

its a free country and everyone is entitled to believe in whatever they wish..being a christian is fine as long as you dont go around trying to convert those that dont wish to know..as for cool! well that is just a figure of speech..i am sure you think you are cool with your way of life..just as others are cool with theirs...

I think that most people here seem to be trying to worm their way out of saying that obstaining from sex and drink is uncool, because we all like to believe in basic human freedoms and the rights to do what you like with your life as long as it doesn't affect others in a regrettable manner. This is a commendable attitude, but not really the point. Cool doesn't involve right or wrong and whilst it is an entirely subjective motion, if you take an overview of the country, then obstaining from sex and drink is NOT cool. But that doesn't mean that it's not a brave and worthy attitude.

In today's society cool is probably most influenced as a notion by giving into hedonistic desires of some sort, and so abstinence of any sort is never going to be thought of as cool unfortunately.

fluffie - it's denomination.  Although the words domination and religion do often seem to be found together!!! :-p

People may think of it as "uncool" just the way some shallow people think it's "uncool" not to have the latest labels, or haircut or tattoos.  However, "cool" is a very subjective thing.  If your religion adds to your life and makes you a happier person, then do carry on!

Also, a lot of people, however interesting and intelligent they are, end up down the pub on a weekend, having a pint and talking about sex!  If you can't join in with that (well done you I say!!) then they might see it as not cool. 

For goodness sake don't feel forced to join in!!!  Do your own thing and live your own life! :-)

I don't think Christianity or religion are particularly uncool, thye are just completely irrelevant to me and my life.   As for abstenence, I very, very rarely drink (and even then, only a half glass fo red wine) and don't give a jot whether anyone else judges me to be cool or uncool as a result.

Why do you assume that its thought of as uncool. is this your from your ecperience with thode you come into contact? - from most of the responses you've obtained here I would say there are equally if not more that think its admirable to have standards in a world that is spiralling out of all moral control - just stay with it and be content - because THAT is the rick to inner happiness!

A free-thinking person sees all religion as nothing more than irrational superstitious nonsense because nobody has aver had the tiniest shred of evidence that God or the Afterlife actually exist.
In an age of scientific reason where everything has to be proved before it is accepted, clearly Christianity is seen as something from a bygone age and thus "un-cool".

I abstain from sex (at the moment!!!!! Not for ever!!!!!! I hasten to add!) but not alcohol. If I could swap them, I would - but my conscience doesn't allow it! >.<

Yes it is seen as uncool (writing from England btw) but there's no way I'll stop from doing what I want to do just because some people don't agree with me.
