Door Bells

Can anybody tell me where I can buy a loud doorbell. Both of us are hard of hearing and it is really annoying when the postman calls and we see him pass the window the find a card to fetch a parcel. Are they never told to knock loud? Help appreciated

Father- in- law has one with a separate light, so when the door-bell rings the light flashes. Can't find anything to link to for you, sorry. Maybe ask Council or Ageconcern (or whatever it's called these days)

The other thing that you could consider is a lockable large parcel box, they are not cheap at around £130 but if you are experiencing real problems, it may be a solution worth paying for. If you look on mailboxmania.co.uk you can see one which fixes to the house wall for £132 approx.
I guess that you could put a permanent notice next to the door bell to bring anyone's attention to it.
Hope this helps.

If you are well hard of hearing - you could be entitled to a lot of help from RNID - they are very good. I have a light attached to my phone so when phone rings light flashes - one up and downstairs. Also the bell (electric) very loud. Good luck. RNID put both in. Also another good thing if they do put a bell in for you ask them to put one in your bedroom. Very very handy.
Similar to Murray, we have a wireless one too but ours has 3 chimers. We have one in the lounge one in the dining room and one in the kitchen that I can take in the garden, it's pretty loud when they all go off. It might not always be your hearing though I've had cards put through before when I've been in the house and I know no one has knocked or rang the bell.
many thanks for all your suggestions. we do not get many parcels but just this morning we had another. Again we didn't hear him but my son-in-law saw the card and found the postman. He had knocked and could hear us talking but we didn't answer. How loud do they knock? It surely gives all postmen a bad name if they can't be bothered to make themselves heard.
