Vasectomy Reversal - Nhs

My husband had a vasectomy, at his GP surgery, a few years ago. He did this on the grounds of me suffering horrendous post natal depression and the fact I nearly died during child birth.

He has now sprung it on me that he'd like another child.
I have mixed feelings about this but can see/understand his reasons for wanting another child.

How does this work, with regards to getting a reversal done? Can this be done via his GP surgery, or would it need to be private?
Are they, on the whole, successful?

Thanks.

Very few (if any) AHAs will fund vasectomy reversal. You would have to go private and take into account the relatively low success rate.

Hmm, ok. Thanks for the link.

Do you know if it's fairly simple, and the same as when he had it done in the first place? What I mean is, do you know if it could be done at a GP surgery, or does it involve a hospital?
Is this the same guy that moved back in a few months ago and wanted to go to strip clubs, then wanted you to move away from family?
Question Author
Well yes. I don't have more than one "guy" on the go.

Its much more complicated reversing a Vasectomy. If I can give an analogy its like cutting a rubber tube in two and sealing the ends then trying to undo the seal and stitch the two ends back. The first bit quick and easy, the second harder, much longer and not always successful.

No, reversal isn't simple, cannot be done in the GP surgery and has to be done by an experienced Urologist as it involves microscopic surgery.

Octavius, I'm still waiting for your imput on the matter.

I assume by your comment that you have something to offer in relation to the OP...

Thanks Kristal and Sqad.
He only had it done a few years ago, so he's thinking that will go in his favour.
It doesn't really matter if he has to go private, he's determined he wants it done now, but he seems to think it will be a case of going back to his GP surgery and having it done there, as opposed to having to go to a hospital.

I thought not.
I gather that the other issue which may make the reversal fail is the presence of sperm antibodies

Did/will he go on the weekend away or not?

Thanks Woof.

Yes, he is going.
oh.........oh well....no comment.......
how do you feel knowing that you may suffer post natal depression and your pregnancy may be dangerous considering you died last time?
nearly died!
reversal will require a hospital visit.

His delicates will swell to the size of footballs and there will be no intercourse for 6 weeks.

He sounds like a selfish s0d.

Does he not consider you at all?
folks, much as we might like to, we can't live this lady's life for her.....
that's true Woof, love is blind and we all do things when we're in it and outsiders just don't understand.
Well I wouldn't call it love but you are right, I don't understand it at all. Were this bloke messing with me, he would have no need to worry about vasectomy reversal.
Do you want another baby?

I found having two kids easy. When the third came, although I love him loads, it was just a bit too much.

I really noticed it with the laundry and buying food. Food tends to be packed to feed a family of four.
My friend nearly died during her first pregnancy. Second one was a doddle.
although it's not the question you asked, at least not out loud, I also wonder if "mixed feelings" are enough to proceed with.
