Can Vitamins Disturb Your Sleep?
11 Answers
I take Vitabiotics Pregnacare Conception vitamins and Vitabiotics Vitamin D every night before I go to bed.
The instructions only say that I must only take after food. I don't always eat during the day, so I know that if I take the vitamins before bed, I would have some food in me.
I've had major problems with my sleep, and my husband has just realised I take them at night and has said that's why I don't sleep well.
Is this true?

You would obviously be better off eating regularly and avoiding caffeine afternoon/evening. I really doubt pure vitamins can keep you awake, but try taking them earlier in the day and see what happens. I'm assuming they don't contain caffeine or anything to give you a bit of a buzz. Are you worried about anything?

You can take pills with a very small amount of food and it will be fine- they are vitamins not anti-inflammatories, so shouldn't be too harsh on your stomach? Just have a little bit of cereal first thing and take them then. If it took a month for you to develop sleep probs then you may have to wait a month to see if this helps.
Also it is not good to eat and then sleep. Your system needs to do housekeeping to build and repair you during sleep, not expend energy digesting food. Try to eat at least 3 hours before sleeping. This may help too.
