My 15 year old daughter is booked in for surgery on her bunionette next thursday, 19th Sept.

it's a day op but she will have to be put out, i also understand it's quite painful.

Now my daughter seems to think she's going to a friends birthday party and sleepover on the friday, the day after the op !!!! As she'll be on crutches, she thinks she'll be mobile enough to go.

Now i know im her (very protective !!!) dad lol but i don't think she'll be in any shape to go partying. I would imagine she'd need rest and an elevated foot for a few days at least.

Has anyone had any experience with after care ?

Any help most welcome

if you are referring to a bunion being removed - it is very very painful as it is literally a bone - your daughter won't be going anywhere for a while.

Correct.......and it will be painful.

In my day, the solution was quite simple........tell her that she is NOT going.

Yeah, that's exactly what im referring to !!!! Although it's on her little toe hence a bunionette.

She thinks she'll be up and dancing the next day, think she might have a bit of a shock coming
If it's still painful she'll probably not be in any mood for going out anyway.
Quietly have a word with the head nurse or if possible the surgeon, then post op they can tell her what she has to do, at this stage mention the party in their presence and let them tell her no go and then it will be official and you can quote them next day when the tears start. Good luck.
dee - why? in my household, my son does as he is told without any farting about....it will be too soon after the op, hammerman, as she needs to rest completely for about 72 hours after - not putting any weight on or near it (so not standing up or walking anywhere at all if possible). it will be sore as hell and she needs to be mindful of the wound, stitches and dressing as it all needs to stay put for that time. obviously try and make things nice for her as it's never good missing out....maybe a few dvd's, take away as a treat and lots of hugs/fuss. she will just have to accept that it will be no party and a weekend of sitting still!!! x
