In Wales recently I saw a person from Great Ormond Street Hospital
asking for money, why would people outside of London want to give to this hospital?

Because there could be a chance that their offspring might need it`s services one day?

I suppose because it's a hospital that treats children from all areas not just London .

Because it's one of the best children's hospitals in the world and takes youngsters from all over the country. A good part of the money raised goes to providing places for parents from out of the capital to stay while their children are being treated.

As has been said, our families may need to go there and it is reputed to be the best for children in Great Britan.

While admitting I know nothig about fundraising, people will willingly throw money into GOSH buckets because of the 'ahh' factor. They are very successful at it. I just wish firemen with their full regalia and fire engines would take on something more challenging. BTW, are you sure the Welsh collector was genuine?

Great Ormond Street is an ok hospital for children but frankly not my first choice, but it's publicity machine is brilliant. It's true that it is well regarded all over the world and that many children outside of London (and England, it does have a private practice too) are able to use it.

...ahh....not much to ahh about with a sick or dying child.

For children and adolescents (in general) it is UCLH jno. A lot of the docs there work over at GOSH anyway some of the time.

It depends on specialties I guess, obviously GOSH are not just a money generating machine and it would be unfair for me to imply they are. I just don't like dealing with GOSH much and neither do the other people in my team so I can only go on my own working relationship with them.

I am sure that Alder Hey, Liverpool and Children Hospital Sheffield, to name bit two, would not necessarily agree.

I live in a N. Lincs village south of scunthorpe in 1959 my 18 month old sister needed an operation for a hole in her heart, she was taken to Great Ormond Street for the operation, sadly it was in the early days of this operation and she passed away,but they do a great job for children from all over the country and i for one give to this hospital.
