This may sound like a totally stupid question, so I apologise in advance but what is the meaning of Scientologist?  What are their beliefs?

They follow Ron Hubbard, just another guy who's realised how easy it is to dupe the gullable. Another branch of the wonderful world of Total *&^%$ks!

Don't be fooled into thinking that because John Travolta and Tom Cruise are Scientologists, that it is in the slightest bit cool or great. It is utter twaddle. I had a boyfriend for several years who was a scientologist, so I got to understand it quite well.

In my opinion, it is designed for Aquarians who can't go along with conventional religion, but do want to be part of a group. L Ron Hubbard was a science fiction writer, so the scientology books are basically wordy nonsense. If you can make sense of a paragraph and break it down to what it is actually saying, you will find it is ether saying nothing, or something really obvious that could be said in 4 easy words.

They also run courses. They give out detailed questionnaires to make you think you have flaws (like communication problems) and then they sign you up for courses to put you right. My boyfriend ended up doing a course that involved him sitting on a chair for up to 12 hours at a time. If he twitched or moved or fidgetted, he would have to start again. It was UNBELIEVABLE. They would charge him a "donation" of 12 per session, and he was unemployed at the time.

I went on a "projecting your energy" (man) course just to shut him up, and it basically took the guy doing it ALL DAY to say, make a career plan, take it one step at a time, and you will eventually reach your goal. Only they use all this complex and silly language, to make the scientologists feel clever, and to alienate others.

Steer clear is my advice. A true waste of time.

They believe that a woman shouldnt scream during childbirth as it is harmful to the childs ears!

Obviously a "religion" invented by a man

it is a religion for celebrities. they don't know what their beliefs are, but they're sure they have some.

Everyone, thank you for explaining it to me.  I was just really curious...I have no intention of joining any group whatsoever.

I bet you wished you never asked butter1

lol Woodsz.... I just didn't want people thinking I was interested in anything like that.  Just didn't have a clue what is was about.

butter,

I had a dear friend who became a Scientologist(though luckily so far away,we had to converse by mail),so I have experience of their methods.

It is really a commercial(enormous money making) enterprise masquerading as a Religion.

It's a sort of emotional pyramid selling. You get "converted" and then try and "convert" others, presumably whilst making money(for the "Religion") whilst you do.

L Ron Hubbard must have been very clever to invent such a scheme, and others must have been very stupid to fall for it.

Considering the number of "Stars" who are Scientologists,it just says a lot for their mentality(or lack of it!)

What makes me want to vomit is the Celebrity Scientology Centre in America. It had red carpets and tassels and bouncers (presumably to stop the riff-raff getting in). I walked past it and couldn't believe what I was seeing. Most religions believe that we are all equal in the eyes of God, but in Scientology having tons of cash makes you more equal than others!

Stupid Tom Cruise also had a go at the woman who has just taken over in 'Chicago' (sorry, have a total blank as to her name) who had been very open about her experience of post-natal depression and done a lot to try to remove the stigma.  He just waded in with is Scientology hat on and said she shouldn't have taken anti-depressants and just used vitamins...
The story Hendrix55 is talking about is when Tom Cruise appeared on the Matt Laurer show and spoke about Brooke Shields using antidepressants for postpartum depression. Now i dont know anything about scientology but I do know (and anyone with internet access can soon find out) that what we now consider essential drugs for psychiatry actually has origins in Nazi Germany. The pharmaceutical industry is the most profitable business on the planet (and also financed Hitlers rise to power) and has everything to do with profits and nothing to do with health. Please do some research. As for tom cruise you have heard the media drivel but a little research would reveal that a number of psychiatrists and researchers around the globe have publically stated that though Toms comments left a sour taste and no doubt baffled alot of people who have been brainwashed by the propagander they were actually correct.
