Finally my GP has recognised that my hormones are wonky!

She has suggested that I try the IUD, but I'm really not keen on it. I'd like to try the POP, but due to my hormones I'm overweight. Can I still take the POP?

Of course, once the hormones have settled, hopefully the weight will drop too.

Do you mean progesterone only pill? My friend is on that because she is overweight, in preference to the combined pill (sorry if that's not what you meant!)

Yes, sorry pixie I should have said progesterone only pill. I've spent so much time talking about this lately I've descended into initials!
Fair enough. Just checking. What has your doctor said about the pill? They do seem reluctant to prescribe them, i feel. They seem to try to persuade you to change to other methods when you're on it anyway.

My GP didn't seem to want to discuss it with me. She seemed to be set on the IUD and didn't really take on my concerns about it.

I want to do some research before I go back to her to ask for the POP instead.
I was on the progesterone only pill for a very short time some years ago. It was ghastly - I had a period about every 2 weeks. It had such a huge inpact on my lifestyle that I had to come off it. A friend of mine who has wonky hormones has a contraceptive impant. Have you considered that option?
Question Author
I just can't get my head around an implant either. The idea of a foreign body in me is freaking me out!

I know I have to do something, my periods are hell and I'm growing a beard! I was fine before I had children! I blame them!
To be fair, an IUD is a foreign body too. My friend who has the implant is a nurse and puts her own impant into her arm and she gets along very well with it. I`m not saying that you should have that but it might be another option to discuss with your doctor.
I've had no problem at all with mini-pill. Your periods become irregular and lighter at first and usually then pretty much stop. I'm the same, i don't want anything intrusive either. Whether it would actually help you though, would depend on the hormone imbalance. You could just refuse the IUD and see what she suggests next.

Thanks to you both for your answers.

I'll go back and refuse the IUD and implant.
You're welcome. There will be other options. She needs to listen to you x

Thanks pixie.
