Just need some advice or recommendations regarding painkillers used for Period Pain... as the months go by I am suffering more every month (I am 43). Just feel totally washed out for 3 days every month. Not just the usual dreaded cramps, but lightheaded, NO energy. I take Ibuprofen every 4 hours but after about 2 hours I am literally waiting to take more. Somebody suggested painkiller with Codeine included? Also my monthly cycle has been getting shorter over 18 months i.e. every 23 days now. Ladies please share any advice as I am dreading every month now and plan my life around those 3-4 days. Thanks x

OK Thank you. I am glad I was recommended this site. I think it's very good. What is "Report" in the bottom right hand corner for? Why would you report somebody???
Welcome piggy - it's a great site.

Report is if an answer offends you (or someone else) - you click report and then the report goes to the site editor, who decides what to do with it.
When I was in my 40's I had a coil fitted. The name began with a A. It stops your periods completely.

OK Boxtops - I am not easily offended, so that wont happen.

Thank you Chrissa1
was it a marena coil?
It's worth knowing about, piggy - just occasionally we get trolls on this site, who need reporting immediately!!
That's it, slinky. Lol.
Mirena, chrissa?
^ sorry, posts crossed!
\\\ Are you a GP?\\\

NO!
that's the one I had and it changed my life.
I must be half asleep today. I completely didn't read the 2nd page of this post.
Sorry. The coil was brilliant for me.
LOL, it's a bit more radical but I had a hysterectomy at 50 - it was the start of a whole new life..... :-) :-)
Dear PIGGYPOO. There are some men on this site who do understand & sympathize with your problem, I for one do know how painful Dysmenorrhea can be ( my darling wife now deceased suffered for years before the menopause). You could try Paracetamol interspersed with Codeine ( as you are aware you may take two Paracetamol every six hours ) & also the same dosage of Codeine so two Paracetamol then THREE hours later two Codeine then three hours later two Paracetamol.)You can safely continue this regime for as long as your menstruation lasts. Sqad as he states is not a GP but I think a retired Consultant ( not sure in what field ) but he regularly gives us all very good advice about numerous medical problems. Hope you very soon feel much better sweetie, will be thinking of you in your trauma.
