I had my stomach pumped years ago. The worse bit is swallowing the tube.
HIghly unpleasant and uncomfortable but not painful.
Afterwards you feel a bit bruised round the middle as you do with any prolongued vomiting episode and you have a sore throat.
As hc says, a tube is passed down through the nose into the stomach with you lying flat on your side. The part of the tube that is protruding through the mouth, is "hooked up" to a funnel and the "washing fluid" is poured into the funnel, until the stomach is full. Then, the funnel is lowered and by gravity out comes the fluid plus stomach contents.

Does it hurt?.............No.

What happens next depends upon what you have swallowed and your general medical state.
Sorry, usually NOT through the nose, but through the mouth.
Has your doctor suggested this procedure, thisisme, or is it your idea of how to release Kat?
Not had it done, but I know that if there is anything at all in your stomach, it won't be staying put!

The procedure usually means that what ever you have swallowed is going to do you some serious harm, so this is the lesser of the two evils.
In the UK gastric lavage (stomach pump) is not often used these days.

I had one back when I was 13 years old after taking an overdose of paracetamol, It was a horrible sensation and one I would not ever want to repeat, I was told that this was one of the reasons they did them.
I quite liked having my ears syringed though
Do you know lillydreams and Hiway123?
