That is always a fear for me. But I thought by getting anti-virals early I would avoid the pain.

I seem to remember it taking much more than a week before I recovered from the initial attack of shingles.I don't think a week is long enough .

Hi Gordie, I have been suffering with head shingles which covers the whole scalp for nearly 3 months, at times it's very painful to just touch my hair gently. I take paracetamols 3 times a day. Some days when the pain is really bad, usually first thing in the morning, I take a 300mg Gabapentin which my wife takes for her Phantom pain which helps.
I will be 79 in April so I'm hoping I can have the new injection for Shingles. At the moment it is only available if you are aged 70 or 79.
My doctor didn't prescribe me any anti-virals as I was feeling very well other than the Shingles as he said they would probably make me feel badly.
