Is there such thing as destiny/fate or is it cause and effect/choice that
determines the outcome of our lives and our life luck?

You can buy the lotto/raffle ticket, scratchcard or enter the comptetion
talk to a potential partner, go live in a new place, try a new career etc,
but what determines whether what you want to happen does or does not?

Cause/effect and choice. People that consider themselves lucky are more likely to buy a lottery ticket anyway.

Destiny, fate - and luck; are they all in the same category ?

I remember reading that, perhaps around 80 years ago, Madame Rothschild was in conversation with someone who remarked that her son was impressively lucky. I seem to remember that the son in question was the one who greatly increased (if not founded) the wealth of the family. Her reply was "Yes, isn't he ? In fact, the harder he works the luckier he seems to become".

I am being lazy and not bothering to look up the details/facts of this quote but the point remains in place. It is that what others perceive as your luck is often (usually ?) of your own making.

presumably on the grounds of very lucky men make their own luck.

BUT hard work does not 'cause' luck - remember the phrase - there are no marks for effort ...

and finally - recollect - there are old pilots and there are bold pilots but there are no old bold pilots.... not quite true of course - those pilots who survived the war went onto frequently to successful careers in wherever and it was said it was because they could take calculated risks....or in other words made their own luck

If things are inevitable because what happened in the past causes what happens now, then there is a fate/destiny, not because something decided what will happen to you, but because there is no escape. If there is something called free will, and I still haven't heard a good definition of it, then maybe, just maybe, there are options somehow. Although how any option you choose is anything more than cause & effect on the neurons in your brain, is not easy to see. What you want to happen is purely coincidental with whether it does or doesn't occur. Although if there are options you can do things to make it more likely.
