Alcohol - Appetite Increase
111 Answers
For one reason or another I have had to knock alcohol on the head, but since doing so (I am still very early days) I have noticed a massive increase in appetite.
I would have thought it was the other way round, but does anyone know if this is 'normal'?

Hi Baby_Sham, I really wish you all the best. It does seem like a horrible time at the moment and the shakes and sweats will last for a while longer still. Don't worry that you are eating too much at the minute, it will level out, you will probably get some strange 'hankerings' for Beetroot/ Brocolli and other mineral rich veg and salty food - your body will just be...

Unfortunately not, chrissa.
I found some hidden in my partners room.
I have never gone out to buy my own alcohol (I have anxieties when it comes to shops and going out), but I knew he'd hid some somewhere.
I'm not proud of myself, but I was having a particularly bad day.
Need to start from square one now :-(

It's not really back to square one b_s, you just have to be a bit stronger. Though, you just have gone looking for it.
I know it is hard, but it can be done. I see you had difficulty in sleeping. That's what I had too. My doctor prescribed me Temazapam and I sleep fine now. Some people decry sleeping pills, but as my doctor said, the pros far outweigh the cons if you know that you can get a good night's sleep without the help of a drink.
Keep going, you'll do it. X

Chrissa, it's the sleeping that's really getting to me. I keep waking up covered in sweat at 3 o'clock in the morning.
I was taking medication, but I decided to forgo that once I'd found the alcohol (I know, I know) :-(
Anne, my partner had been getting it for me.
I know that makes him sound awful, but he's really not.
I was very manipulative when it came to getting it. Again, not something I'm proud of.

well its never going to work if your partner is enabling you to consume alcohol. are the children at your parents because of you addiction, im sorry to sound harsh but this isn't a blip , you will be consuming the same amount of alcohol as before if not more very soon. I could understand if people think im being harsh, but I know through working with addictions how difficult giving up is,
Chrissa, I've been on and off Diazepam for about ten years (when my anxiety first ever started) but, and I know this will sound a bit weird, I have a 'thing' about taking tablets.
It kind of makes me anxiety worse, as I'm constantly worrying I'll be the one to suffer the 'rare side effects'.
Honestly, I'm a lost cause.
