I wish it would just happen!
Everyone in our family has had a bad head cold (lasting 4-5 days). For about a week now I have woken up feeling a bit out of sorts as if I am "about to come down with it" but it hasnt manifested itself yet.
Now I have a very important week with work coming up and I will be so annoyed if this cold breaks during my busy week. So if it is going to happen, I would prefer it to be now! Obviously no cold at all is preferable, but I know my body and it seems like it is preparing to fight a bug!

Get some of this JD... If you catch it early enough it really works..

Cheers.
I feel the anticipation of "will I get this cold" is as bad as the cold itself!
When I get a cold I usually feel yuck for weeks but it rarely becomes a normal cold.

My GP says it is because my immune system doesn't kick in. All the gunk and nose blowing is your body fighting it off.

I don't know if he is telling the truth or making it up as he goes along like he usually does. :-)

Dont know if this makes sense but I have the "feeling of a cold coming on" without the ususal physical symptoms (blocked nose, cough, sneezing, headache etc...) I usually feel like this just before I get poorly, tired and a few body aches
I get that a lot jd and yet it rarely develops into a proper cold. It's actually worse than the cold because it's not obvious to anyone else that you feel rough! I also use Vicks First Defence, not sure if it works or not!
I am sure that Dr Sqad will be along. But my gut feeling is that you are run down and your immune system can't be arsed kicking in to fight off the cold.
Zinc
sounds as tho your family is big enough to pass it round in a circle indefinitely.

They closed down the common cold unit in salisbury when they found 200 serotypes and not much else ( that is nothing worked )
Not a thing that you can do about it to expedite the event...have the Ibuprofen ready.
vitamin c, worth a try.
I wish, right now, that I could havea really good sneeze down my right hand nostril...... I'd feel so much better.
I`m not sure that you can`t expediate it. I remember when the flu was going around and I felt a bit out of sorts. I happened to be in a hotel and I decided to go swimming in the pool. I ended up swimming 100 lengths and when I got out of the pool, I felt shivery. Within a few hours, I felt quite rough and I had to go sick from work. My theory is that your body can`t fight the cold/bug and use huge amounts of energy at the same time so doing exercise can bring it on a lot quicker.
When someone close by is coughing and sneezing, and before you catch it, take two Echinacea, then one a day for a week. It builds up the immune system, works for me. Helps if you are going somewhere with air conditioning as well. You mustn't take them all the time, just occasionally when you think you are going to catch something.
