laproscopic shaving of acromial bone in shoulder to relieve impingement
No experience of this, but here is a link to information suggesting the success rate is about 85%..

My mum had decompression done on both shoulders with high success, no pain since!

I'm hoping it will be the same for me if I have to get mine done as I have impingement in both but I've got the added complication of rheumatoid arthritis.
I had mine done in 1995. Excellent result PROVIDING you obey the physio to the letter, and do all your exercises regularly. I am thrilled to recover 100% movement in my right shoulder after being told it was so bad I would be lucky to get 70% back. I can put my arm straight up in the air by my ear, and reach right down my back to scratch an itch!! Tell your friend it will be brill! Expect quite a bit of pain for a few days after the op, but soon passes with strong painkillers (I had Tylex)
