I think your right Tilly, the article says the police where called because of falling bricks! being a danger to the public. If thats the case then why would passers by be filming it.

Entirely deliberate I would say.

You don't need to be a construction expert to see that the entire strcture is held in place by that small strata of bricks that the man is poking at.

It is equally obvious that once that section is removed, the weight of the buidling will all shift to the right, and collapse.

Since demolition is obviously the intention, it's job done.

Why else would anyone be filming it, unless advised that a spectacular collapse was imminent?

I can't see 'making a building safe' would be anyone's idea of a video classic!

The bit he is fiddling with is keyed into the left hand building and the fall starts in the right hand half so I would say was unconnected...

Well. Peter when he pulled out the left hand bit, the right hand bit had nothing to cling to. I still say it was deliberate.

2 bricks short of breaking the world record for front terrace demolition!

The Builder

You can see there that the whole left hand side had dropped considerably even before he started. The bit he was struggling with is a timber lintel in behind the outer brick arch.

A good part of the roof load would be bearing on that, so it's easy to see what would happen. I guess he's just a Council worker rather than an engineer. No sensible Company would take on a demolition with just a cherry -picker.

Great stuff though. It's a shame that a lot of our housing stock is similar... just below the surface.
