Just a bit of a rant here - I alarmingly read at most of the answers some of ABers give to others re "please go to the doctors" to me, at the drop of a hat - I, like most of them try to avoid them as they (GPs) are not interested. The vocation and compassion has long gone.
I try to self-medicate and have been successful in some things. It is all about trial and error. JJCon
JJ nobody makes you go, and if you are going to ask for health advice on a site like this then sometimes some people's opinions are going to be to see a doctor. If you are talking about advice given to others then why does it upset you?
No, Wolfie it doesn't personally upset me but I certainly don't go to doctors unless I am really really ill and even then when I am sitting in surgery I feel so guilty that I should be more ill than I am. Just me personally.

and that JJ is the problem.
It may or may not take 3 or perhaps 10 days to get an appt.
NHS direct is staffed with non medically qualified personelle and 70% of their replies is to "go to your GP."
Walk in centres may or may not be staffed by medical personelle.
So, the only answer is to go to Casualty or resort to the internet for answers from people that you do not know.
They may say that they are medically qualified, but how do you know...they may just be a "Joe soap"
Sqad - I waited in Casualty for 9 hours some years back with a broken shoulder - and sent home with a sling does it for me every time. Don't go there. Yes you are right - it is all a mess but I guess we gotta be grateful for some small mercies.
It depends on the illness I suppose, I would only see a GP if I was quite ill, if you are going to need medication then no amount of googling and self medicating will give you a prescription.
I must admit some people do say "Go to the doctor`s, or ""Go to A&E for the slightest thing on here. Got a sore throat? Go to the doctor. Woken up with a sore neck? - Doctor`s. Or "I have hurt my toe" - Go to A&E. No wonder they are so overstretched.
