a scan for kidney stones ( which showed that I didn't have any big enough to worry about ), showed a swelling on one kidney....I am seeing the consultant in 10 weeks...... I would like to know more before the visit....my knowledge of anatomy and biology is rather sketchy.....any input will be read with interest.

If the scan has shown a swelling on one kidney, then knowledge of anatomy is not necessary.......it is on the kidney.
By far the commonest "swellings" on the kidney are benign (innocent) cysts, which do not require any treatment.
There are other causes, but far less common.

That would suggest that the "swelling" is not considered to be.....serious.
.

You could ask either your GP or the hospital for a report of the scan ( it is after all your data ) - and then sqad may be able to tell you more

this is so far in the category of my CXR is abnormal - what do you think it could be ?
