Lunar influenced behaviour - does it really exist?
11 Answers
My husband really does change his behaviour around the time of the full moon. I can only say that I have noticed this increasing for a number of years and he becomes really irritable, bad tempered, depressed and morose - particularly with me! Is this really possible? Does anyone know or has experienced similar changed behaviour or psyche?

I had a diary once with moon signs in and it was fascinating to read when they were changing and what attributes they had.
I'm surprised that Impret-Sir feels its all nonsense. When I worked for an out of hours gp service we used to dread the full moon. Our call rate for psychological problems used to double. We had two particular patients, one male, one female (not related!) who would start to make calls to us 2 days before a full moon. They would make up to 5 - 6 calls per shift. The calls would tail off again a day or two after the full moon. Anyone in the medical profession will testify to the fact that a full moon definitely has some (detrimental!) effect on psychological problems. I currently work in a hospital social work dept., and we have several neuropsychiatric patients. I have already had 6 phone calls today from two of those patients today.! When was the full moon?!
The reason why I believe it to be nonsence is that, as a scientist, I look for a credible, repeatable, demonstrable explanation for things. If people think this is true, but only because, "every full moon all my neighbours start acting funny" or such like, then that is not evidence. If this is true, then how does it work? Why does it happen? The argument that because the gravitational pull of the moon makes the tides go in and out, and we have lots of water in our bodies, therefore, of course, the moon makes us behaive strangly too, just doesnt stand up to scrutiny. For example, why dont astronauts in space, or even actually walking on the moon, where the effects of gravity are different than on earth, suddenly become irritable and/or depressed?
