I'm looking at a consultant's Sigmoidoscopy report - written in 2006

It states in the report ( amongst other things ) under the headings -

report
' small fibrous anal polyp '

Diagnosis
'Normal Sigmoidoscopy '
'Anal canal polyp '

It also says that 'he could have this anal tag removed '

I have not have it removed .

My question - is this polyp likely to turn cancerous ?

I have just re-read your post.

Anal polyp.....anal tag.........two different things, so one presumes that you had both or an anal polyp OR an anal tag.

My answer remains the same whatever.

My bet...for what it is worth.......you have an anal tag.....No Big Deal.

i didn't know that - I thought in the report -
' small fibrous anal polyp ' / 'Anal canal polyp ' / ' anal tag ' , were the same thing .

1.Are they likely to cause seperately any other type of cancer - or any other problems ?

2. Do you think i should have it / them removed - whatever it is - i.e. both OR anal polyp OR an anal tag - or should i leave it/them alone

1) NO.

2) If you are having no problems i.e itching or bleeding, then leave well alone.

There is little doubt that there is one lesion.....anal tag? fibrous polyp which is the same thing.

Personally, and after discussing it with your own doctor, I would have an anal polyp removed.

This is exactly what it says -

'Small fibrous anal polyp . He will have a barium enema . If this is normal i will write to him with result . He could have this anal tag removed . i see that he had been investigated by xxxx in 1999/2000 and was offered removal of this polyp but declined '

Bazile, have a look at the patient.co.uk site for anal polyps.
Personally, I would rather take their advice, which is to have them removed..even I'd they're not causing any symptoms...than have the small risk of them developing into cancer.

There are two types of anal polyps:

1) Adenomatous polyps which rarely become malignant.
2) Fibrous polyps which NEVER become malignant.
