Following on from the birthday thread thread, how do you celebrate your birthday?
We haven't bothered with cards or presents for a number of years now, rarely if ever go out especially for a meal or anything, anything we want to do or buy we do or buy throughout the year. We just give each other a kiss and say happy birthday on the day. Suits us.
I have a friend who has bucks fizz, cake, and 'surprise' visits and loads of presents from her three grown up children, on her birthday morning, she gets very annoyed if someone's a bit late or happens to be away on the day. She was horrified to learn that we'll be doing a four hour drive on my birthday, asking why we didn't go the following day so I could celebrate my not special birthday. She's 56 and I find her attitude a bit juvenile, she probably finds my attitude a bit odd too.
Are you a non birthday person or a big celebration person?

Which did you enjoy best Ummmm?
Enjoyed both. Gibraltar was a week and Brum was just one night.
Always celebrate birthdays with presents and meals out, just normal to us really.
Some people do go over the top with birthdays, I too find it a bit immature. It's usually shallow, materialistic people who do it.
i've spent the last couple of years being debauched at the german market in birmingham with a few other abers & its been great :-)

but i could happily do that at anytime, not just for my birthday. the only thing i insist on, is the day off if im working, i refuse to get up to the alarm.
Some people like Birthdays Dave, nothing wrong with that
Yes, I think that's a bit harsh dave. It's up to folk to celebrate how they like.
i don't think its shallow to want to have fun on your birthday, some people like to celebrate and have lots of fuss, some don't

My last B'day, (July) we were going for a Meal, walked along Seafront, Popped in for a Beer, decided it was far too warm to sit inside somewhere to eat, so carried on walking with a few more Beer stops added along the way, A pleasant evening stroll in the end.

I'm just a non fuss type of person. I had a big party for my 50th and really wished I hadn't, I hated being the centre of attention and to this day don't know why I agreed to it.
Some people love all the hooha and that's great..for them. Nothing to do with being shallow.
I just can't see the point in celebrating getting old (I know the alternative's not good either!)
We always go out for a meal for our respective birthdays. We like going out for meals, so it's a good excuse really.
We do cards and presents, nothing overly elaborate though.

Any excuse to trot off to a good pub/restaurant in my book......however weak :-)
And Eccles sends herself an AB Happy Birthday thread! ;-)
Usually a trip to the cinema and lunch or dinner somewhere nice...that's what me and Nungate usually do, dad is a whole different ball game. He does however get a home cooked Steak dinner
Only 'celebrate' milestone bdays..the 0th ones and they are low key. As for cards, we give each other the same card every year same as wedding anniversary....we are consistent and frugal lol, but it works for us. As you ethandron, we buy what we want throughout the year, no need for 'things' for bdays, unless it's alcohol and chocolate .
It has varied over the years, when my husband was alive we'd often go away for a nice break as our anniversary was 2 days before my birthday.

Last year was a big '0' one and my family did me a wonderful party with outside caterers and a decorated marquee - only close family and a special friend though. A fabulous day to remember.
