Thanks all. Off for a wee nip.
I usually drink a couple of large glasses of dark rum & port. Usually knocks me out till morning & I usually wake up feeling much better. My theory is I sleep so well my body heals itself overnight.
The best tip that anyone ever gave me - gargle several times a day with soluble aspirin dissolved in water and then swallow it. Sounds ridiculous - but it works. Magic!
You can't force a cold to go away but Zinc & Vit C supplements are thought to reduce the period. As for the symptoms there is plenty of stuff at the chemists to try, although sometimes I wonder if the symptoms are the body fighting the invasion and should be left.
Go to bed with a good book.... or someone who has read one !!
Oh, I've also been known to try Echinacea. Unsure if it helps, but I recall reading in a few places it might.
Black currant Lemsip, generous splash of lemon juice and a large dollop of honey mixed with the rather obvious boiling water.
Manuka honey melted into some warmed rum or whiskey and juice of one fresh lemon taken before you go to bed. During the day drink without the alcohol. I mix a beechams powder -the ones in the little paper packets -in with the mixture and it works for me.
untreated colds last a week. If you treat it, that should cut it down to seven days.
Vitamin C & Calcium pills, 'Coldrex'. Used to buy them from the chemist's, they shortened colds.
Can you still get First Defence? Used to work a treat for me.
Are you sure it's not an allergic component?
