I've received an appointment to go for treatment for Osteoporosis with Denosumab. Could anyone enlighten me on this please? What I want to know really is, will it make me unwell as I had treatment for this a few years ago with Zolendronic Acid and it made me really poorly. many thanks.

It might.........the most common side effects are backache, water work problems and skin irritation and swelling at the injection site. These may not be significant and may be only transient and annoying, not requiring treatment.
Barsel, could I ask why you're having this? I have osteoporosis myself and due to various circumstances haven't taken the alendronic acid I've been prescribed for maybe three months now, just been taking the massive doses of calcium.
I'm wondering if this is something I should ask about.
ethandron I had to stop taking calcium because it was in my blood, it has a name for it but I can't remember what it is. When I had my DEXA scan it seems the Osteoporosis is quite bad in my spine but they have this thing called NICE and you have to meet the criteria. I expect sqad will be able to explain better than me. x
I have to have the first injection at the hospital and then every 6months at the GP's but I believe it's quite expensive and if the GP won't do it, I suppose I might have to have it at the hospital each time. x
My mum has that for cancer that has gone through the bones. It replaced her Zometa (zolendronic acid) because her kidneys were showing signs that it was having a harsh effect on them which happens. The Oncologist told me that Denosumab is a more expensive drug so I presume that is why they give Zometa first. She has no side effects at all.
When our Drs prescribe Denosumab we always give the patient a detailed leaflet listed all possible side effects and all info about it maybe ask for one then it's always to hand? Good luck hope it works a treat for you with no effects xx
