The need for 'reading glasses' is caused by the eye's inability to focus as fast as it did when you were younger. Called Presbyopia, it is generally believed to stem from a gradual thickening and loss of flexibility of the natural lens inside your eye. Almost everyone required reading glasses as they age… some sooner, some later. Managing with the readers is a relatively easy transition.
Fact is, no kind of 'surgery' will correct that deficiency. If, in fact, you experience some other malady which can be corrected by, say Lasik surgery, you'll still require readers for near vision.
If all you are experiencing is the need for close vision correction, I wouldn't worry about it… having said that one must always consult the professionals...
