I have problems with the soles of my feet- constant pain and fizzing so standing and walking is very hard. I have had it for 6 years. I tried Amitriptyline for 2 days and it made me all serious and totally woozy. The doc has just given me Dosulepin so I have looked it up and everywhere seems to say it has been taken off the market cos of problems. Is there anything (Sqad?) I can take for this instead of these anti-depressants? My brain is about the only thing I have left which works and I really don't want to mess with it!

I've been on them a while with no probs. Just spoken to my pharmacist and she said they're not being withdrawn (25mg).

Did you get any side effects- drowsiness/mood changes, scorpiojo?
Slight drowsiness for a few days, but nothing major. I was prescribed Seroxat first and hated it...I felt totally detached from everything and as if I could quite happily (pardon the pun) sit in a corner and do nothing. No interest in anything at all (sorry, slightly off-topic).
I have never had side effects to any medication and had a rather bravado attitude to medication but Amitriptyline was horrible and I was on a very low dose.
Scarlett......I am not sure that i am going to be much help here.

No Dosulepin isn't dodgy........it is a Tricyclic antidepressant commonly used and still is, as far as i know.

Give it a go Scarlett.

\\\\ I can take for this instead of these anti-depressants? \\\

You could ask your DR about Gabapentin and/or Pregabalin, but i would give Dosulepin a go first.

Difficult situation that you have found yourself in.....

Thanks all. It's tricky cos I know that everyone reacts differently to drugs but I do seem to be very sensitive to all of them- if there's a side effect then I'll get it! But I do read that this drug had effects on peoples' hearts, which is why I am reluctant to use it!
You are taking antidepressants for pain in the soles of your feet?
EDDIE.....Yes she is.

Popular and well researched treatment in certain types of neuropathic (nerve) pain...or chronic pain.
^^ Thanks sqad you learn something new everyday !
Dothiepin _ Dosulepin - has been around for such a long time ( 40 y ) that Sqad will have learnt about it at med school

countless millions of doses will have been taken [ by other people ] that you can conclude it is quite safe
PP

Long before that PP, i can remember Largactil coming in and then Parnate and even Stelazine...............and then the big winner Amitryptilline.

Sqad, is anti depressants really the only thing I can take to deal with nerve pain in my feet?! Is there anything else? I really don't want to mess with my moods/brain.
Scarlett....I really do sympathise but i can't think of anything.

Gabapentin and Pregabalin are not anti depressives as such, but their action is on the brain.

Silly, I know, but have you tried Ibuprofen either 400mgms in one go or 600mgms?
Question Author
Shouldn't really take ibuprofen cos of my ulcerative colitis - but will try and see !
