Hi, have picked your brains a few times.

Last night ended up at A and e, as I completely lost my hearing in my left ear and then got exceptionally dizzy and unbalanced.

After a lengthy check up, I was given waxsol and stemetil and an appointment to get my ear seen to.

Bp was really up but then i was panicky, rest of stats were fine. Neurological signs all fine.

I am still getting dizzy, is this normal even on stemetil?

thanks

Well, from what you say...the A&E " boys" think that your dizziness and deafness is due to impacted wax ..........and they may well be right as that would be the commonest cause.

My only "slight" worry would be that the deafness was indeed caused by the wax.

When is your appt to "get your ear seen to" and what Dr is it..GP or ENT surgeon?

From what you have said, there is nothing to worry about and stemetil is the drug of choice.

appointment is in two weeks and i was told i had a lot of wax, but it happened so suddenly last night. im scared of the dizziness.

ent doc
\\\\\appointment is in two weeks \\\\

That is NOT acceptable. See your GP tomorrow, tell him that you have been using wax softeners for a week and that you would like your ear syringing.
Don't let them fobb you off.

If your hearing is fine after syringing...all well and good, but if it isn't then get back to me
Question Author
ok...even though i have only had the drops from last night to soften wax?
DON't tell the GP you have only been using them for 24 hours and don't be put off......see him tomorrow and report back;-)
Question Author
ok will do. Should i be scared, do u think it is something else?
LOL.....LOL.....I just want an accurate diagnosis and on that will your treatment depend.
Question Author
ok! :)
Sqad, a GP to syringe ears?? Mine said No, & I had all that palaver of visiting the "ear clinic" at the hospital.
whirly.......but somebody as to.
"has" ^^

sqad, have now been given betahistine as keep getting really dizzy and cant stand ....so now on stemetil 10mg three times a day and 16mg betahistine 3 times a day.

doc says ear is so full of hard wax. they cant do anything right now. Thinks either wax or menieres as a cause.
Thanks for the update....I am still not reassured and will not be until the wax is removed and then you hearing loss can be assessed.
Question Author
are the tablets i am on good ones to stave off the dizziness....it is the dizziness that bothers me most
I am not a believer in Betahistine.........I don't think it works........but it is a very popular treatment in the management of dizziness.

The daily dose of stemetil is fine.

sqad, my bp seems to be sitting at 174/117 , it's through the roof, is this anything to worry about? Usually im 145/86
creamy....one thing at a a time, otherwise we will be meeting ourselves coming back.

Your ear must be cleared and we must know what is causing the deafness and until we have reached that stage everything else is secondary.

You BP is high and may need assessing.........but later.
Question Author
ok....just feel a bit woozy and out of it, and thought bp might be because of that. I do stress!
