Tender Scalp, Shooting Headache Pains

Since the afternoon the right side of my scalp (top of head to about halfway down) has felt tender - a bit like if someones pulled my hair (see, I still remember what that feels like!) Its tender to touch.

A few hours later this has been accompanied by shooting headache pains that last for only a few seconds but every few minutes or so.

Anyone heard of this before?

That's how my DH's shingles started.

I can't have shingles. I have a beer festival to attend tomorrow.
alcohol doesn't always go well with shingles medicine, so best not seek treatment until you're sober again.
So that you have more information, and to see if the symptoms apply to you, Google 'temporal arteritis'
I had tender scalp a few weeks ago and someone suggested this to me. It did not fit with me and the pains and tenderness wore off over about a week.
could be a bit of neuralgia down the face
Question Author
yes, been googling symptoms as well as asking on her and the word 'neuralgia' seems to pop up a lot.

Unfortunately, calling it "neuralgia" is the easy part....it simply means pain in a nerve. It's WHY the nerve has been damaged and is causing pain...that's the awkward bit!
I like the suggestion of shingles........just watch out for the rash.

Temporal arteritis is more of a throbbing pain than "shooting " pain.

We should know by Monday.

all seems to be well, symptoms were gone by the morning!
Good news Booldawg...........feedback appreciated.
