The risks of passive smoking are very real. there is an ad  on TV at the moment that states that living with a smoker can increase your risk of a heart attack by up to 25%!  Remember Roy Castle? the cancer that killed him was attributed to his career of working in smoky mens clubs. Plus you and your clothes will begin to smell like an ashtray, just like your flatmates, yuk!

I have smoked and have stopped for 3 yrs.

My hubby works away and is home for 4 days every 10 days.

I am nauseaus and cough and splutter for days when he is home and after he goes back.He has the cheek to moan and lament when I start coughing during the night -its his bloody fault!!!

You see I've got the wee hairy bits on my throat back which smoking burns off -so I am more sensitive.I also get the boak (scottish - dry sickness) when I see an ash tray in the morning cos I was sick every moring with gunge for 6 months after I gave up.30 yrs of poison.

I feel quite bitter now towards smokers but hey I was one - at least I didnt ever inflict it on my chuldren - either in the womb or after.

It is remarkably easy to give up - believe me!

Once you have spewd up the gunge once - you will never smoke again.

End of sermon - sorry (just ask my husband)

Sorry went off on a tangent - of course it affects you.Tell them to either smoke in the kitchen or outside.End of!!!
Are you a masochist? Why would you inflict this on yourself? It will affect you in a number of ways, for a start any non smoker will think you are a smoker as you'll smell as bad as a smoker. Your clothes and hair will reek of it, nothing in the flat will escape and then there's the irritation of passive smoking not to mention the health aspects. I admire your bravery, there's no way I could live with a smoker.
Sorry, but just wondered why you moved into that flat? If they were there first then they have a right to smoke.
My grandparents smoked,my parents smoked, lived in an era when smoking was allowed on top deck of buses which use to be like a smog, and my wife smokes hasnt bothered me. I dont smoke, never have done I believe it has to do with make-up of your genes.

i moved in at the same time as them, its a uni flat
Sorry squeb. I misread your question as "the other 2 people smoke". However, in this day and age I would have thought that Universities would have separate non-smoking accommodation for people who prefer it.
