This has to be differentiated between a prepatellar bursa (Housemaid's knee) and an effusion in the knee joint.

Prepatelar bursa...no big deal.
Fluid in the knee joint.....a bigger deal.

Do you get pain on walking?
Question Author
No pain walking but painful to bend knee it's red and hot
OK...the it is likely to be Housemaids knee.

I would make an appt at your GP's as it may need antibiotics, but in the meantime Ibuprofen 400mgs every 4 hours and rest as much as possible.
Bag of frozen peas on it whilst resting will also help.
