How Many Here Care For Someone With Memory Loss?

Just a query as to how many on here have partners or family members with this condition.

Hi Bath x ... It was a sudden realisation ... I had to think just before going out the door. I apologised to him when I gave it him if it looked patronising .. of course the person with memory loss has no idea how severe a loss of memory they have. He just said .. no. .. good idea! We did laugh at the possible scenario of someone coming in to the waiting room with the same name as him .. while I was being seen! That could have been confusing!

I look after people with is problem every day, also looked after the mother in law with dementia. It can be very hard and very rewarding work.

I do too, in a residential home for 20 years and now homecare.

Ubasses .. sorry to hear that. Seizures are quite frightening to watch. I'm glad you've been lucky enough to find good care for your loved one, that is a huge relief x My brother too had seizures & was put on medication.

I'm caring for my sister. It's not easy and what's particularly galling is that she has two daughters who are happy to let me carry the burden on my own.

Yes Sandy I am aware of your situation and I find it absolutely abhorrent at the daughters not weighing in and helping you - it is a disgrace to humanity at them treating their mother like that and also burdening you with it all.

sandy ... I know how hard that must be for you. My sister is official carer for my mum & brother ... only my brother suffers this condition. I help out when she needs a break .. may be a weekend away or whatever. It is hard ... you need to have a talk with her daughters sandy. Everyone needs a break as a carer.

Eddie, I've just 're-read the posts regarding your dad & his paper round .. my dad suffered disorientation for quite a while before he died & that recollection of your dad forgetting his route & why he was there reminded me of an occasion long before he became bedridden where he forgot which way he needed to go. I happened by chance to bump in to him thank goodness ... we laughed about it at the time ... but on reflection he was losing his memory even then.

i am helping my husnad and his family look after his mum. She has just (this weekend) moved into an extra care home. On the first day she escaped :) but it was all sorted.
I am a caring person by nature but i quite often find my patience wearing thin;especially when she rings us 8/9 times in one day (or on one memorable occasion, 330 am, 430 am, 530 am, 7 am, 9 am and 8:30 am) and start every conversation like the one before hadn't happened

Hiya bednobs ... I'm sure you are a caring person ... that would stretch anyone's patience ... This memory loss can be very distressing for everyone. I had a neighbour who was like this with her family before finally going in to a care home. She would call them many times day/ night, wander the streets in the early hours of the morning not really knowing the real time & forget to eat. Repeating the same conversation can test your patience .. it's only natural. So many families suffering out there.
