What exactly is your body's "metabolism"? How do you know is yours is too fast or too slow and is it dangerous to try and change this?

I would say it is the rate at which you burn fuel to produce energy! It is very hard to prove that yours is faster or slower than anyone elses. You can mess with yours by fooling your body into thinking it is starving (ie by not eating/skipping meals.) The body will then naturally slow down it's metabolism to make the energy it gets from food last longer. The problem then occurs when you start to eat normally; the metabolism has slowed down, and you eat more food, your body thinks it is still in starvation mode, and you gain weight.

It is quite complicated come to think of it, but this is how I always understood it...!

scarletts hit the nail on the head KAZ. I think there are certain foods you can eat which help steady your metabolism. Its said that green tea can spead up your metabolism (i.e. make you loose weight) but im not sure how much truth is in this. (i drink it anyway - just incase! plus it has other benifits) Also you can get chromium suppliments which are supposed to even out your metabolism.

Adios slimming tablets and also those new Optimise drinks (which contain green tea as mentioned before) claim to boost your metabolism and help you stay in shape has anyone tried them?
