What would be a suitable laxative for someone on long-term MSTContinus tablets at home? I've tried bisacodyl without much effect and also Laxedo. On a couple of occasions, I've found that a glass of Andrews Salts works but I'm looking for something I can take alongside the MSTContinus on a daily basis to prevent the constipation getting out of control in the first place.

Thank you.

I use mova col

polyethylene glycol ( PEG ) and it works quite well - if you find it works then you can get it on 'scrip

Morphine is notoriously constipating
Do you like mints? I once ate an entire pack of sugar-free mints in one go and I can assure you - from rather embarrassing experience - that they work as an extremely effective laxative!
;-)
Also liquorice. I love Pontefract cakes but have had to give them up for the reason Chico describes.
Try Regucol from H&B. Bit of a drag to take, but works a treat. Start with 2 spoons morning and night and then reduce to mornings only
Ask your GP about Bisacodyl capsules and Senna tablets They worked well for me when I had a serious problem with it. Much easier to take than any liquid stuff too.
Re: sugar free mints - it`s the sorbitol that does that.
Dioctyl was the name I was trying to think of. Don't know whether it's just another name for Bisacodyl, but in conjunction with Senna it works well.
My Husband on the morphine tablets and has fybogel on prescription which he takes morning and evening and always takes 6 prunes with his breakfast cereal and seldom has a problem
