I return to my current job a month ago after being on maternity leave for 9 months. I have been suffering from postnatal depression and anxiety since having the baby and although it’s two days a week I’m finding the job too stressful. I have found another job which I think will suit my current situation better, how should I tell my boss? I feel really bad they have no idea I want to leave. Should I tell her the reason or say something else? Im quite a private person.

Honesty is the best policy. Just say a career change has presented itself which you wish to pursue and thank them for the opportunities over the time you were employed.

If you don't feel able to discuss this face to face, your resignation letter can cover your feelings. On the one hand, it's a formal statement; Dear X, I would like to tender one week / month (whatever) notice of my intention to resign. (If you like you can say 'with effect from X date, just to make it clear). (but then you can be a bit more flowery and explain things) Having been presented with a new opportunity that will suit my changed circumstances better, I'm moving on with some regret. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support during my time at Bloggses. yours sincerely.

After being back from maternity leave, I have found it difficult to confidently comprimise my time between family life and work.
