I'm finding the adjustment from the French system (where I am consulted and am an equal partner in my treatment) to the British (where I am a number in a queue) very, very difficult. I can see so many ways in which the system could be made more efficient and improved. Our doctors, fortunately, seem to understand that we expect to know what is going on - but not always, witness broken rib X-Ray question. I do question things, very politely, but firmly and so far I'm getting away with it.
Why? Oh why? don't the X-Rays and other test results get sent straight to us? Save a fortune in NHS storage, is more efficient in that they don't get lost in a huge filing system and you promptly make an appointment with your GP to discuss the results and hear his/her recommendations. It works fine in France.
