Is there any truth that ginger can effectively tackle colds, and winter coughs and sneezes? If there is, how can this best be used for this purpose (dosage, frequency)? Thank you.

Ginger is used in many cultures for health-giving properties, as is garlic. It can't harm and it goes with so many things.
Have you tried Echinacea, I know a few people who swear by it. Haven't tried myself as it warns against people with allergies using it.

If you mean by truth, scientific evidence then the answer is........NO.....no truth whatsoever.

If you mean are there any "old wives tales" then the answer is yes......plenty of old wives and even more tales.

Take your pick.
Take a cube of ginger, chopped, plus some peeled chopped garlic, ditto chilli, squeezed lemon juice, and a dash of tabasco. Place in a mug and top with hot boiled water (needn't be boiling as such). Allow to brew till cool to traste and down the liquid (not the solids) in a few gulps. That really brings a glow on. Not sure about medical help but it helps you sweat.
Chewing half a clove of raw garlic per day works wonders for me. After a while the smell wears off.
Do you have any friends, Jack?
I believe it has it's benefits. As well as being a comfort physically, I think just psychologically it helps
... recuperation.
Don't care, just love ginger
Oh, and garlic stuffed olives
Well taken hot, its warming and will help clear your nose and ease a sore throat. I like ginger tea,
A whiskey mac is good too or mix Drambuie with ginger wine for a really potent sleep inducer. The posh version uses Drambuie and The King’s Ginger Liqueur.
