Had Flu And Now Feeling Weak
6 Answers
I've had flu for 9 days. It's seems to have cleared up apart from a cough and snivels. I am now feeling weak.
I am due to go back to work on mOnday, do you think I should be back to full strength by then?
And is it normal to feel weak after flu?
I am 39 years of age and female and normally fit and healthy.
Thanks

I reckon you are probably past any contagious stage and getting back into the old routine might even speed up getting back to normal. See how it goes but I suspect if you go in and don't push yourself too hard but do what you can cope with it may well turn out to be the best option. Worst comes to worst you can always say you aren't feeling up to it, tried to come in before you should, and go home early.

The thing is, flu is a serious illness. Some people are lucky and recover quickly but you're experiencing the side-effects badly. It depends on what kind of work you do, but if you do go back, try to take it easy. Weakness, wobbliness and depression are well known to follow after the streaming cold and high temperature has subsided. In fact many people experience suicidal depression as a result of flu. So being aware of this, and of how ill you've been, might help you pace and monitor yourself.
Some recommend taking extra zinc during the recovery period, so you might try that.

I had a violent 24 hour flu and it took me over a week to filly recover. I didnt feel like eating properly for several days. Be sure to hydrate well over the next few days and if they are available drink sport drinks like Gatoraide or whatever brand is sold in your country to replace electrolytes. Also if your stomach is up to it you need to take a mutivite and you may need an iron supplement just for a few days. Your body will have been severly dehydrated and depleted of electrolytes and minerals from the effects of flu. Those things need to be replaced. Sodium and porassium are also important and if Omega -3 supplements are available in your area i highly recommend those.
